Mentors are to new referees as coaches are to players!
What is a mentor? Once new referees leave their licensing class, mentors are the ongoing front line for fulfilling the training and development needs of these new referees. And as referees gain experience, they can continue the relationship with their mentor or add new mentor relationships. From theory to practice, caring mentors explain and demonstrate the hows and whys of soccer officiating to newly licensed referees.
It is important that a referee is serious about improving their skills before requesting a mentor, because both the ref and the mentor must be committed to investing the time and effort needed to improve.
