Recreational (Rec) and Recreational Plus (Rec Plus) are the largest divisions of

Mustang Soccer League with 65% of all players participating at this level of play.

  • There are no tryouts for the Rec Plus program.
  • Rec Plus practices 2 times per week, once with their coach and once with a professional trainer. Trainings and practices begin in August and continue for the duration of the season. Each team is assigned a trainer and training time. Training sessions are held at the Mustang Soccer Complex. The coach of the team will reserve the practice locations, days and times around their day schedules.
  • Rec Plus players pay an additional $300 fee which covers the cost of the professional trainers, the season kick off jamboree and the mid-season Saddleback tournament.  The total cost to play in this program is $625 ($700 if registration is after June 15th).

  • League play begins in August/September. Because there is tournament play as well as League play, RecPlus players may play games on both Saturday and Sunday occasionally during the season.

  • RecPlus teams play in the mid-season Saddleback Tournament which is a purely RecPlus tournament. This tournament will take place in September.

  • RecPlus teams also play in the week long Dick King End of Season Tournament usually beginning the 1st weekend in November. This is a single elimination tournament so some teams will go on to play the following weekend.

School/Zone Codes: Your school and zone code tells the League where your player attends school and the area in which you live. This information is used for team formation so it is important that it is correct. Click here

Parent Coach Registration: All Recreational head and assistant coaches must register separately from their player to be considered for a coaching position.  To register as a coach or assistant coach click here.

Coach Background Checks:  All NEW head and assistant coaches must complete a LIVE SCAN fingerprint background check for Mustang. Click here for more information on Coach Background Checks.

Recreational Player Registration: To play in the Recreational league you must complete an online League registration for your player. No further action is necessary to be placed on a Recreational or Recreational  Plus team. To start the process, click here.

Rec Plus Registration: The Rec Plus program is available to Recreational U9-U14 players. It is a single registration and you must register in the appropriate age group for Rec Plus.  Go to the Rec Plus page for a full program description.

Team Formation: Teams are formed based on school/zone codes. Returning coaches are allowed to request a certain number of players from their previous season, depending on age group, which includes the children of the head and assistant coaches.

Friend Requests: Because of the size of the Recreational division, the league is unable to accommodate any coach, team, practice schedule, carpool, or after school care requests. The only way to guarantee placement on a specific team is to be part of the coaching team (one head coach and two assistant coaches) or if you are one of the eligible protected players from last year’s team.
