COMPETITIVE SELECT PROGRAM
The Level III Program represents Mustang Soccer's Competitive Select teams for U9-U19 (2016-2006) players. These teams are still considered competitive and mostly participate in the bronze/copper levels during league play.
What is the Competitive Level III Program?
The Competitive Level III program is unique to Mustang Soccer and is a fantastic bridge between recreational soccer and the upper competitive divisions.
Who typically plays in this program?
For the 24/25 season, players in the U9-U19 age groups, encompassing 2016-2006 birth years, are eligible for this level. There is always a great variety of players within this program, ranging from recreational players who are ready for a more competitive environment to competitive players who are not ready to make a full-year time commitment to soccer.
Who coaches these teams?
The head coach is a parent volunteer who has been certified and approved by Mustang Soccer, based on their experience, licenses, background checks, etc.
If you are interested in returning as a volunteer coach for the upcoming season, please follow the instructions in the link below. All interested coaches need to fill out and submit an application every year. Each year, the Competitive Select Coach Application is due to fredwilson@mustangsoccer.com by March 5th.
How are these teams formed?
These are competitive teams with players selected in a draft after their age group's designated tryout date. Players are not eligible to be selected in the draft unless they have attended the Competitive Level III - Select program tryouts. For tryout information and schedule, please click HERE.
Teams are formed by birth-year. For example, a 2010 player cannot play on a 2009 or a 2011 team.
What is the time commitment?
A typical season will take place July-November or early December:
- A one-week (10 hours) summer camp run by professional Mustang training staff in July or first week of August
- Two 90-minute practices per week with one session run by the volunteer coach and the other run by a professional trainer
- Fall League play against other clubs in the Bay Area
- Participation in the NorCal Premier State Cup (bronze/copper division)
- An additional 2-3 regional tournaments throughout the season
- Some teams participate in optional NorCal Spring League or tournaments
